![]() That’s Mason Zgoda singing the high octave on the choruses and taking the lead on the bridge. So the phrase “Let it ride” came to mind and I guess the lyric is essentially saying, “Good luck and rock on everybody!” In the case of this song, Dan Michaels had just boasted of a winning night at a casino in Indiana (Yeah, he’s the only gambler in our band the rest of us best stay clear of any more tomfoolery). Several years ago he was singing “beautiful mystery” and I changed it to “terrible mystery.” Over the years there are many such examples in our songwriting process. For example, on our recent song My Father’s Son, he was singing, “under the shallow sky,” which I modified to “above the shallow sky,” and ventured off from there. When Derri sent me this basic track several weeks ago he was singing, “Let it rain…” He typically hums a melody or sings a sort of gibberish that I am accustomed to, often including words or phrases that I pay close attention to and frequently incorporate into the lyric.
